4th of July at the Shore

It’s finally the 4th of July holiday weekend, my favorite holiday and the pinnacle of summer! Many people all over the east coast flock to the beach, the Shore, whatever you like to call it. I grew up in the Philadelphia area, so to us it was always going ‘down the Shore’. Now that I’m a Floridian, I go to ‘the beach’. When I lived in Oregon, we went to ‘the coast’. But the beach by any other name, will always smell just as salty 😉

One of my favorite beaches on the planet will always be Ocean City, NJ. There are a lot of great Jersey beaches to choose from but Ocean City is just a real gem because it caters towards families and just has a great overall vibe. For several blocks you can walk on the boardwalk, visit shops, indulge in many sweets and delicious food, or go on amusement rides and cap off the night with some mini golf. The 14th Street beach is my favorite because of its easy access to Bob’s Grille, but I also enjoy 45th street because my aunt and uncle have a house there and it’s a bit less crowded the further down you go.

It’s always fun to go for a refreshing swim in the ocean, ride the waves on a raft or boogie board, stroll along the shoreline collecting seashells, and of course, the people watching. When I’m laying on my beach towel lathered up in sunscreen and wearing my favorite sunnies, I like to read gossip magazines – it’s one of the only times I let my mind wander onto such mindless material, but it feels good to give in to a little guilty pleasure when you don’t really have anything else to do but enjoy the nice cool sea breeze and work on your tan.

What are you doing this 4th of July weekend? Will you be seeing any fireworks? I’d love to hear about it. Leave a comment below. Be safe, be sensible, and most of all, be sunny!!! xoxo
